The Central Electronics Centre (CEC) was established in 1971 within IITM with the main objective of servicing and maintaining the wide variety of sophisticated electronic equipment.
- The need for training service engineers for maintaining the Electronic Equipment was felt and program, the first of its kind in the country, was started in the same year.
- Since then, conducting such a training program has become one of the important activities of the Center.
- The significant advantage this Center has over other similar organizations is the mixed environment, i.e. a blend of an academic environment and an industry-type working atmosphere.
- In 2001, this Center received ISO 9001:2000 Quality Certification from RWTV, Germany.
- From 2002, the center has extended services in the area of testing and calibration in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Standard.
- In the area of Renewable Energy too, this Center has been playing a key role by conducting several training programs in the area of Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV). SPV Laboratory facilities have been established to promote the R&D activities in this important thrust area.
- This centre also supports design and development in the area of electronics, instrumentation and solar photovoltaic systems.
- This Center has lent its expertise in the above areas to more than 300 industries and other organizations in India and outside the country.
